Teachers please note: The painting was inspired by a poem by John Keats and depicts a poem by John Keats. John Keats poem is a retelling of a story of Isabella and the heart-break she experiences when her two brothers murder her lover. The poem is based on the story Decameron from a collection of Renaissance tales from Italian author and poet Giovanni Boccaccio. You may want to tie in the study of Renaissance literature and poetry for your older students. However, the subject matter is not appropriate for all students. We’ll leave it up to you to decide if it is appropriate for your student.
